2021 Online Residency – Artists’ Talk

This year’s programme has started and we had a first artists’ talk on zoom on 18 September.
The residency programme takes place online again this year – what will Marit and Morgan be working on this year, building on from their residency last year?

The recording is available below.

Online Residency 2021 with Mart Shirin Carlosdotter and Morgan Quaintance

Last year, Morgan invited people Hokkaido/Sapporo residents to participate in his work by submitting their videos of daily life, with which he produced a film, Letter from Sapporo. Morgan said it was good to do a residency, although online, as it gave him an opportunity to make work. The constraints of being online brought him new challenges in making a film in a style that is different from what he was used to.

For this year’s residency, Morgan is again looking for people living in Hokkaido and Sapporo to participate in/contribute to his work. More details will be available soon on this website.

As dancer and choreographer, Marit wants to return to her creative roots this year and think about her own body. She always consider the body from a historical and societal perspective having indigenous roots, but this time she also wants to focus on her own body itself. She is also looking at the nature as sources of inspiration as we all had to stay online and indoors as we relied so much on online communication during the pandemic.

You can watch Marit and Morgan’s presentations in the video above.

Marit and Morgan will be taking part in a group exhibition at Sapporo Odori 500m Underground Walkway Gallery, which is scheduled from December 2021 until February 2022. More details will be available on this website.
