AIR NETWORK MEETING

In 2023, those involved in artist-in-residence (AIR) programmes in Japan faced a devastating funding cut by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, which had been the main source of funding for many residency organisations in Japan. Currently, there are 105 residency organisations in Japan listed on AIR_J (a comprehensive website for artists-in-residence across Japan, as of 27 November 2023). The number is increasing year by year, which means that the sustainability of residency projects are being seriously questioned.
In partnership with AIR NETWORK JAPAN, S-AIR is hosting an emergency forum to share the current art management situation for residency organisations in the country and question the sustainability and future of residency projects in Japan.
