Stone Circle 2024

In commemoration of the World Heritage registration of the Jomon Monuments in Hokkaido and the Northern Tohoku Region on July 27, 2021, the Hokkaido University of Education has been practicing an art project titled Project JOMON for two years until last year, as a project of the Agency for Cultural Affairs.


This year, in FY2024, the Hokkaido Government and the Jomon World Heritage Promotion Office will hold a workshop on the theme of stone circles, one of the most important elements of Jomon culture, and a video production based on this theme.

In addition to the Hokkaido University of Education taking the lead in planning and cooperation, S-AIR, a Sapporo-based NPO, will host the workshop production, the Muroran 100-Year Building Preservation and Utilization Association in Muroran City will manage the venue, Masato Hatanaka, a Sapporo-based filmmaker, will produce the video, Wonderland Sapporo will provide stone materials, and the participants will be recruited from local citizens as well as Hokkaido University of Education students. In addition to students from the Hokkaido University of Education, local citizens and others were invited to participate in this project, which is a collaboration of industry, government, and academia.
